Originally from Mexico, Viridiana first gained attention during the SIS Soccer Showcase, a pivotal moment that launched her into a remarkable collegiate and professional career. Her trajectory has been marked by her success in the United States and her impressive impact in international women’s soccer.
Academic and Athletic Success at Franklin Pierce University
After her standout performance at the SIS Soccer Showcase, Viridiana earned a scholarship to attend Franklin Pierce University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a focus on International Business and Marketing. During her time at Franklin Pierce, Viridiana excelled both academically and athletically. She was a key member of the FPU Women’s Soccer team, competing in the highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.
On the field, Viridiana was a dominant force in defense, earning multiple selections as Defender of the Week. Her exceptional performances also led to her receiving the prestigious Northeast-10 Elite Award, making her the first soccer player to earn this honor, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both in their sport and academically.
Viridiana’s academic achievements were equally impressive. She was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business Management and Administration, as well as the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Her dedication to her studies culminated in her graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022, a testament to her hard work and determination.
Breaking Barriers in Professional Soccer
Following her successful collegiate career, Viridiana took her talents to the professional stage, joining Puebla Femenil in Liga MX Femenil. Her entry into the team was unique, with a memorable introduction by her partner, forward Verónica Martins. Before transferring to the University of Tulsa, Sergio made his mark at Richland Community College. During his time at Richland, Sergio was a key player in helping the team achieve remarkable success, including two NJCAA National Championships. His contributions were instrumental in the team’s impressive 46-0-2 record over two seasons, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier midfielder.
Shining at the University of Tulsa
Sergio’s success at Richland earned him a transfer to the University of Tulsa, where he continued to excel. As a junior in 2022, he started in all 17 games, making an immediate impact in the highly competitive American Athletic Conference. Sergio’s ability to contribute offensively was evident as he scored three goals and provided five assists, tallying 11 points for the season. Notably, he ranked fifth in shots (43) and 10th in assists (5) within the conference, showcasing his effectiveness as a playmaker.
His standout moments included scoring the game-winning goal against Memphis and adding key goals against Marquette and Temple. Sergio also demonstrated his playmaking abilities with assists in critical matches against Kansas City, Kentucky, South Florida, UCF, and Creighton.

Beyond his athletic prowess, Sergio is also committed to his academic pursuits. Currently a senior at the University of Tulsa, he is majoring in Finance at the Collins College of Business. His exceptional skills on the field led the team to two national championships, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure and lead his team to victory. Rising Through the Ranks at Tulsa
After transferring to The University of Tulsa, Mariano pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance while continuing to dominate on the soccer field. His contributions were pivotal in maintaining a strong defensive line, which allowed just 18 goals against and secured eight clean sheets, the best in the league during his tenure. Mariano’s defensive prowess earned him a spot on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s All-East Region first team and the title of the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
